crime and Punishment

In recent times, nations around the world, including Colombia, have seen a significant rise in criminal activity. News reports are constantly filled with acts of violence, theft, and homicide, leaving many citizens living in a state of fear. In my view, a fundamental cause of this situation is a judicial system that is often ineffective and fails to deliver meaningful consequences.

I am of the opinion that individuals who carry out grave offenses, such as murder or sexual violence, should not be granted an opportunity for redemption. Instead, they deserve to face severe penalties, including lengthy prison sentences or, in some cases, the death penalty, since their crimes cause irreversible damage to victims and their families.

All too often, the punishments we see today are merely for show—they create an illusion of justice without any real substance. Many offenders are released back into society only to repeat their harmful behavior. A community cannot thrive or feel secure when the justice system lacks strength and fairness.

Therefore, I believe it is essential for the government to implement stricter legislation and ensure that real consequences are enforced. This would reinforce respect for human life and the rights of others. Only through a robust and functional justice system can we hope to build a nation where true safety and peace are possible for all.
